'Percy Jackson' sequel setting up shop in NOLA

A Sea of Monsters update from www.nola.com...

After spending much of the first half of 2011 in New Orleans shooting "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," 20th Century Fox is back in town this month for its big-screen sequel to 2010's "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief." Following a several-week shoot in Vancouver, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" started its local shoot on June 5. It is scheduled to continue through July 14.

Logan Lerman reprises his role as the titular hero, who this time embarks with his pals on an adventure to the Bermuda Triangle to find the mythical Golden Fleece. Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Nathan Fillion, Stanley Tucci and Missi Pyle co-star in the film, directed by Thor Freudenthal ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid").
The "Percy Jackson" films are based on a five-book series by Rick Riordan, about a boy who learns he is descended from ancient Greek gods.

Scheduled for release on Aug. 16, 2013, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is among the projects appearing on the latest state-issued rundown of film and television production activity in Louisiana.

Douglas Smith Joins Logan Lerman and Jake Abel in 'Percy Jackson' sequel

A Sea of Monsters movie update from Upandcomers.net...

Despite lackluster box office returns for the first film, Fox 2000 are continuing with their Percy Jackson franchise.

The first flick “Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief“, based on the book by Rick Riordan, was released in 2010 and starred Logan Lerman as Jackson, a teenager who discovers he’s the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods.

Also starring Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson and Jake Abel, the second film, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters” sees Jackson and his friends head into the Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece.

Variety reports that Douglas Smith, star of TV’s “Big Love”, has joined the cast although no word yet on who, or what, he might be playing.

Smith is a relative unknown to Hollywood audiences. The young actor played a young Brendon Fraser in 1999′s “Blast From The Past” and then various bit roles on TV shows. In the next year, the 26 year old has the sci-fi thriller “Antiviral” with Sarah Gadon and Caleb Landry Jones, and the amusingly-titled “The Boy Who Smells Like Fish“, alongside Zoe Kravitz.

"The Hunger Games" thesp Leven Rambin has signed for more battles with a leading role in Fox's "Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters" opposite Logan Lerman.

Rambin portrayed the tribute Glimmer in "The Hunger Games" and will be seen next in Fox's "Of Men and Mavericks," directed by Curtis Hanson and co-starring Jonny Weston and Gerard Butler. The surfing biopic is due out Oct. 26.

Hunger Games Actress Joins Percy Jackson Sequel In Major Role

A Sea of Monsters movie update from Cinemablend.com...

Former soaps and Disney channel star Leven Rambin got a huge break when she was cast in The Hunger Games, and even though she was only onscreen for a few brief minutes as the vicious and beautiful Glimmer, a rising tide as big as The Hunger Games really does raise all boats. Rambin's newest role won't just be in another big, effects-heavy potential blockbuster, but it'll be a lead this time. According to Variety she's been cast in a major role in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, playing Clarisse, the daughter of Ares-- who, if you either know your Greek mythology or saw Clash of the Titans, is the God of War.

The movie is a sequel, of course, to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which wasn't a particularly big hit domestically when it opened in February 2012, but with international money made a respectable $226 million. Logan Lerman will be returning in the title role, as will Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson in their supporting parts, but a number of new adult actors have been brought in for this sequel, including Nathan Fillion, Missi Pyle, Community's Yvette Nicole Brown and Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Anthony Head.

Though Chris Columbus handled directing duties on the first film, the job this time goes to Thor Freudenthal, who made the surprise hit Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Columbus is lending his producing strength to this , which makes it pretty much the best of two worlds-- potential for the new Percy Jackson to feel less like a Harry Potter, while also having the necessary money behind it. Leven Rambin may actually experience it as a step up from the comparatively low-budget The Hunger Games.
